Implant Supported Dentures » Back to Dental Services Menu
An implant-supported denture is a type of overdenture that is attached to and supported by dental implants. Unlike regular unsupported dentures, implant-supported dentures allow for the following improvements:
- More stability resulting in more efficient speech.
- Better ability to chew food.
- Improved appearance - Restore a youthful & more confident smile.
Treatment Procedure
After a careful and thorough examination, your dentist will determine the best option with which to proceed. The first stage involves placing implants in the jawbone.
The time frame to complete the implants depends on many factors. The shortest time frame is about five months in the lower jaw and seven months in the upper jaw. This usually includes two surgeries: One surgery to place the implants in the jawbone under your gums; and a second surgery to expose the tops of the implant which comes three to six months after the first. Afterwhich the denture is secured to the dental implants.
Please note that, in some cases, the process can last up to a year or more, especially if bone grafting or other preliminary procedures are required.
